1st Annual Amanda Pro Am – Nov 2012

Our first annual Amanda Pro Am was held at Wood Ranch Golf Club and was a great day of golf for a great cause.  Golfers bid to play with local professionals including Charlie Wi, Chris Zambri and Steve Holmes.  The winning teams received a great package from NIKE golf and the foundation raised over $15,000 towards the Little League Challenger Division Field Project. Thank you to everyone who participated and we look forward to making this an annual event.

Our annual golf tournament has allowed those who knew Amanda and those who were interested in supporting the foundation to come together for a great day of golf and then enjoy a fabulous dinner and a great auction. Each year a new theme was chosen based on the projects the foundation had undertaken and events surrounding the foundation and our community of supporters.

Each tournament started with a lively check-in including a tee prize such as a NIKE golf shirt or luggage with Amanda’s logo or a NIKE watch or golf belt. Each golfer was also given money to spend at the NIKE store. After check in and before hitting the links, golfers were treated to Starbucks, cigars, massage and an early lunch from the different vendors each year – In N Out Burger, Tommy’s Burger and Brent’s Deli, just to name a few. Phil started the golfers out each year, reminding them why we were all together. During the round, golfers were treated to deliveries such as snacks, cool towels, Amanda logo hats and golf markers and maybe a cocktail or two! After a great round, spouses and families arrived to join the golfers for the dinner and auction. The silent auction had something for everyone including SpongeBob (Amanda’s favorite), Coach bags, Sports Memorabilia and golf and travel packages. The night concluded with the always exciting Live Auction with some favorites such as a flight in a Jet, American Idol tickets and crown mouldings by our good friend Carlos. At the end of the evening, everyone was excited to see what we were doing for next year!

The tournaments were the largest fundraising events for the foundation including our first event with raised $125,000. Over those 8 years, the golf tournament, dinner and auction event raised over $750,000 enabling the foundation to Do Good Things In Amanda’s Name.

The foundation is truly grateful to the volunteers, donors, sponsors and those who attended our golf tournament events. These successful and meaningful events would not have been possible without everyone’s support. We are so very grateful.

Annual Amanda Family Walk & Carnival and 5K

We moved our annual fall event to a new location and our new date – Superbowl Sunday. We added a great new route for the 5K and a walk featuring the vendors at the Simi Valley Town Center. Everyone could get out and get their exercise before sitting and eating the rest of the day watching football while supporting a good cause. Medals were awarded to our top finishers in several age catagories. The carnival included food and fun with the new addition of The Habit truck and Tony Ferrari performing his music. Although the wind did not allow for our usual games, everyone had a great time.

In our first 5K event, we returned to Lemon Park. Everyone enjoyed a race or a walk, whatever their suited their activity level. The carnival included food and fun and the Carl’s Jr. Truck, which got stuck in the mud! We played our usual games with the help of our DJ Jamie… whipped cream pie eating contest, water balloon toss and hula hoop contest. Everyone enjoyed the park atmosphere and being together once again.

Our annual fall event has always included a great walk and even a hike along with a family fun carnival in the park. After the success of our golf tournament event, the foundation felt it would be important to including everyone in a fundraising event. We decided to have a family walk and carnival that could include everyone, especially Amanda’s friends. Each year we chose a different walk route and had the walk at either Lemon Park or Wood Ranch Park. When we lost another member of the Wood Ranch family, Tyler Broberg, we added Tyler’s favorite hike to our annual event and those who attended could either walk or hike.

Once the “exercise” portion of the event was over, everyone met back at the park for some family fun – a carnival with food, fun and games. There were food vendors including the popular In N Out truck along with churros and snow cones. We had bounce houses and monkey jump and rock walls for those needed to expend more energy. We had face painting and caricature artists and tattoos – something for everyone. It became a family reunion type atmosphere with the parents marveling each year how all the kids had grown and the kids happy to see those friends each year.

The foundation is grateful to the sponsors and volunteers and everyone who attended the family walk and carnival and hope to continue to see everyone at the expanded event on Superbowl Sunday each year.

Other Events

Mr. Highlander Pageant to support Amanda’s Foundation

The Royal High School Leadership program hosted the Mr. Highland Pageant at Royal High School on Friday March 14th, 2014. The best and brighest of the Royal High School population put on a live show including talents, dancing and interviews. A silent auction was also held. We are so thankful to Amanda’s classmates who are a part of the leadership program at Royal High and chose to honor her memory at this event. Big Hugs!

B.I.N.S. – Girl Scout Gold Award Project

Guest Speaker Event – Kevin Greene – Negotiating

Our first guest speaker event was held in 2012 at Lost Canyons Golf Club featuring Kevin Greene.  Kevin held an excellent workshop on negotiating skills that was attended by several local business owners and other interested parties.  Each attendee also received a copy of Kevin’s book. The workshop was informative and gave all those who attended useful information for both personal and professional life. Thank you to Kevin and everyone who attended.  This fundraising event raised over $3000 for the foundation.  The foundation hopes to add this type of event to our list of fundraising events.

Texas Hold ‘em Night/Casino Nights

Our Texas Hold ‘em tournament held in 2005 was a fun way for those who enjoyed playing cards to support the foundation. Donated pPrizes were awarded for the top 10 finishers and the card players had a great time.

We expanded the event in 2006 to include casino games such as blackjack and roulette to include those who did not want to play in the tournament portion. It was a great night out for those who attended.

Jr Golf Tournaments

We hosted two Jr. Golf Tournaments, March 28th 2005 and August 28th 2006 in an effort to include the junior golfers that had heard about the great event that their parents had attended at our regular golf tournament event. It was a fun day for those who played golf and those who had never played golf but wanted to support Amanda’s foundation. In Jr. fashion, we served pizza and soft drinks and golfer and parents enjoyed another special day together to support a good cause.

Ladies Tennis Day

On December 5th, 2005, several dear friends hosted a ladies only event in support of the foundation. The Ladies Tennis day was held at the Westlake Tennis Club and tennis and non-tennis players were given great tote bags fill with goodies from Adidas. A quick tennis lesson was provided and then the play began. After a fun day of tennis, there was a lovely luncheon on the lawn provided by Pierre’s Catering. The silent auction and raffle provide great opportunities to support the foundation and get something nice for yourself. It was a great day for the ladies and for the foundation.
