Events Supported By The Foundation
Special Kids Day – Simi Valley Days – Late September
Each year the Simi Valley Days Foundation opens up the carnival portion of Simi Valley Days to the special needs students in the Simi Valley Unified School District. The foundation is proud to support the efforts of the wonderful people at Simi Valley Days Foundation by providing funding and volunteers for this event. Each year the event has grown and now includes carnival rides, petting zoo, pony rides, several jumpers, popcorn, waters, shaved ice and a DJ to keep the kids entertained. It is not only a wonderful event for the children and parents, but for the volunteers who find they have just as much fun as the kids.
All Star Memorial Tournament – Simi Valley Girls Softball – June 17th Weekend
Each year the Simi Valley Girls Softball organization holds an All Star Tournament. The tournament was named in Amanda’s honor after she passed away and is held the weekend closest to June 17th – Amanda’s birthday. The All Star uniforms were later changed to purple, Amanda’s favorite color, and include Amanda’s logo on the jersey.
The tournament originally drew only a handful of teams, but has consistently grown over the years and is currently recognized as one of the best tournaments in the area. SVGS and TAMF work together to make the event a great weekend for families as this is typically Father’s Day weekend. The City of Simi Valley also reaps great rewards for the event through hotel, restaurant and retail sales.
Both SVGS and TAMF are extremely proud of this tournament. The most important part of the tournament is the Amanda Spirit Award. After each game, the coaches and players from each team award a player from the opposing team with the Spirit Award. In Amanda’s memory, it is awarded to the player who gave the best effort or showed the most spirit. The award has been a logo softball, a logo visor, logo socks, logo shoelaces and this past year, a logo headband.
The foundation supports the tournament by providing the spirit awards, umpire tents and some fun things for siblings. The foundation is grateful to SVGS for keeping Amanda’s spirit alive through this wonderful event. Their support is greatly appreciated and funds donated back to the foundation are used to support the foundation’s youth sports goals.
